those of you who know me are aware that i don't particularly enjoy picking up a book to read for endless amounts of time. but, in certain instances, it is a must.
one huge instance in particular is reading God's word. (this is something i am not very disciplined about, but am working on.) not only seeking Him in the bible, but also other resources like devotionals, references and bible studies.
these are what i am currently reading and one study i'm about to start...
Finding God's Will by Pastor Gregg Matte
I have only gotten through the first chapter at this point, but it's an easy read, so i'm hoping this momentum continues. if you have heard Pastor Gregg preach, his writing is very similar to his messages.
this is one of the many profound statements that i've underlined so far in the God's Will Is About God, Not Us section on p. 25
setting our hearts on His plan and His purpose is the key. God will not be fooled into mistaking our will for His own, or tricked into blessing us in whatever way we desire while we disregard Him.
Jesus Calling by Sarah Young
this is a beautifully written 365 day devotional that my very giving mother gave to me. it is written from His perspective with scripture that is relevant for each day.
here is today's devo (feb. 11)
MY PEACE is like a shaft of golden light shining on you continuously. During days of bright sunshine, it may blend in with your surroundings. On darker days, My Peace stands out in sharp contrast to your circumstances. See times of darkness as opportunities for My Light to shine in transcendent splendor. I am training you to practice Peace that overpowers darkness. Collaborate with Me in this training. Do not grow weary and lose heart.
scripture references: John 1:4-5 (AMP); Hebrews 12:3
for women only by Shaunti Feldhahn
this book is such a great tool for a woman to own. if you are married, single, have a brother, a father, or are the mother of a son(s)...this is priceless info that has been discovered after interviewing countless men. basically, before i read this book, i had no idea how to successfully communicate with my husband. I recommend it!
here is an important tid bit from the Your Love Is Not Enough chapter:
...And that reveals the most important aspect of demonstrating respect: it's a choice. A choice that we make out of reverence for God and love for our husbands. Just as men can choose to demonstrate love toward us even if they don't feel it at the moment, we can and should choose to demonstrate respect respect toward them.
When Godly People Do Ungodly Things by Beth Moore
and this 'lil number is the latest bible study that i will be starting soon! i can't wait! y'all know i love me some beth moore...can i getta amen?!
i recommend all of the above. have you read/reading any of these? What did you think about them or what are you currently reading? i'd love to hear about it! have a blessed weekend!
xo,
libby
